Welcome to all Dark Shadows Fans!
Welcome
to Dark Shadows fans from "the most evil lady who ever lived" -- or at least that's how I was referred to when I was playing Eve on DS. I've gotten to know many of you through the DS Festivals, but I know there are some who can't get to these wonderful weekends, or worse yet, don't know anything about them. I hope to fill that gap and to keep our regular Festival-goers up to date with this Web site. You'll see updates on Festival and personal appearances including photos with my co-stars and fans, my theatrical scrapbook with stories and photos of many theatre productions, and my photography gallery (I'm also a professional photographer.)

My career memoir, On Stage & In Shadows was published in 2005, and is available on Barnes&Noble.com and Amazon.com.It can also be purchased at your favorite bookstore or at our Festivals. And, there's a fabulous special offer, that you'll find as you read on.

It's always been such fun to see our faithful fans at the Festivals, and now it's great to be in touch with all of you through my Web site.
Hope you enjoy it.

Theatrical News!!!

The production of Mark Finley's "The Chiselers" for the Emerging Artists Theatre's SPRING EATFEST 2009 opened on Thursday February 26th, to a great audience and a fabulous reception. Besides, friends and family, there were also some Dark Shadows fans there, and the laughs and cheers were a pleasure to hear. More DS fans attended during the run, with two of them flying in from Missouri! I'll be posting some photos of our faithful fans - I loved having them in the audience.

I played the marvelous character of Beverly Carstairs and had a wonderful director, Melissa Attebery, who guided us through the production with great expertise. We did our last performance on Saturday, March 7th, and I was sorry to see it end. But we had a lovely packed house, again with many DS fans, and we all had a great time.

The Chiselers
Here's the wonderful cast in a "family portrait" from The Chiselers.
Top row: Amy Bizjak as Connie Carstairs (my granddaughter),
and Karen Stanion as Margo Carstairs, (my daughter).
Seated: Nick Mathews (Julian Kerr), Me (as Beverly Carstairs) and Thomas Poarch (Chuck Hutchinson).
Intriguing, isn't it?

Amy Bizjak left the production before we started rehearsals because of another committment,
and a wonderful actress, Andrea Alton came in, and is doing a fabulous job as my granddaughter.
Everyone is the cast is marvelous, darling!
Here are some photos after our first performance, in the lobby of the TADA! Theatre

Our very talented cast.

Here I am with Thomas and Karen

I'm now preparing another staged reading that I'll do very soon
for Stageplays Theatre. Keep tuned!!!

HERE'S AN ARTICLE THAT WAS ON BROADWAYWORLD.COM

Dark Shadows Actress Marie Wallace Stars in Camp Comedy THE CHISELERS
Feb. 26 - March 7
New York City

Paul Adams, Artistic Director and Derek Jamison, Associate Artistic Director, present Emerging Artists Theatre's world premiere of THE CHISELERS by Mark Finley at TADA Theatre, beginning February 26, featuring Marie Wallace in the role of "Beverley." The production is directed by EAT member Melissa Attebery.
She's a famous ice sculptress and scion of the Sacramento Carstairs dynasty and everyone wants to know what really happened the night Margo Carstairs' husband was stabbed to death in a meat locker. Mark Finley's sequined, big-haired, padded shouldered comedy points fingers and names names!
Marie Wallace starred on the cult classic gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows" in not one but three roles: the outrageous Eve, affectionately known as "the most evil lady who ever lived," crazy red haired gypsy Jenny Collins (Marie's personal favorite character) and shopkeeper Megan Todd. Her stage credits include the original productions of GYPSY and SWEET CHARITY.
Says Attebery, "After speaking with Marie, I had a feeling that she was going to be a perfect fit for the role of Beverly, so I was anxious for her to meet Mark. When she left the room, Mark just smiled, wide-eyed. She was the one. Working with her so far has been a dream, and we haven't even had our first rehearsal! We feel so lucky that she decided to join us!" Finley adds, "I was so excited about Marie coming in to read for Beverly! It was so terrific to meet her and after her reading Melissa just looked at each other grinning and nodding as if to say 'Well, that was kinda perfect.'"

Story and Photos in Magazine -available now.
THE GYPSY STRIPPER CHRISTMAS TREE
Yes, there was one in the original Gypsy that starred Ethel Merman and Jack Klugman, the best production ever. I may have that opinion because I was in it (my first Broadway show), along with my friends Barbara London and Theda Nelson. It was indeed a memorable experience. But there was one number in that original production that has never been seen again, and it was a highlight of the show. Writer John Ellis writes about it in The Sondheim Review, a quarterly magazine dedicated to the work of Stephen Sondheim. It's in the Winter, 2008 edition (Vol. 15 No. 2). And it features a great color photo of the Christmas tree, all decked out with its decorations, and we (the dancers and showgirls) were those decorations! Look to see who else you might know in the tree. The magazine is out on the stands and in book stores NOW. It has sold out in many places, but happily, you can click here for their Website http://www.sondheimreview.com/ and get information on how to get it by mail.

Here's an interesting article I found when I was visiting my sister in Connecticut - 8/08

Just before I went out to California for Dark Shadows 2008 event, I appeared at

 The SuperMegashow
& COMIC FEST

Saturday,
July 12, 2008

It was their 10th anniversary! And to celebrate, they moved to a new larger location in the Wayne NJ area at the Crowne Plaza Fairfield NJ RT 46 east next to Willbrook mall. I joined Larry Storch (F Troop, Adam West (BatMan) Julie Newmar (CatWoman)and Eric Estrada (Chips) on Saturday.

It was fun to see our East coast DarkShadows fans at the Super Megashow

Hey, all New Yorkers! My friend, Peter Mac (also a Dark Shadows fan) has a new show opening Off-Broadway Theatre in October, 2008. It's called
JUDY and ME.
I saw it when it was Off-Off Broadway and it's wonderful. In fact, it made such a sensation there that it found a new home at St. Lukes Theatre.
Go to their Web site to get more information and order tickets.

Larry Storch and Stiller & Meara and Me

I recently had the pleasure of being filmed for an upcoming documentary about Larry Storch. It was a fun day and I have a few photos to show that enjoyment. Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller also were interviewed that day and they were delightful. Larry, as always, kept me laughing all day.

2007 Dark Shadows Festival

Jonathan Frid's 40th Anniversary
of his creation of Barnabas!

We had the most wonderful Festival
celebrating the event at
the Westchester Marriott
in Tarrytown, NY on August 17 & 18, 2007.

Jonathan appeared in person at the event, presenting a dramatic program on stage as well as hosting a selection of his favorite moments from DS and a question-and-answer session with the audience. The celebration marked Jonathan Frid's first appearance at a Dark Shadows event in over a decade! It was a once-in-a-lifetime event. It was a great pleasure to see Jonathan, and of course, to see all our loyal Dark Shadows fans.Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker and I were there all weekend, and Diana Millay and Betsy Durkin-Matthes came in on Saturday.

The Festival also hosted a Friday, August 17, day trip to the nearby Lyndhurst Estate, site of Collinwood from the 1970 and 1971 MGM motion pictures "House Of Dark Shadows" and "Night Of Dark Shadows." We all had such a great time, To see many of the photos taken over the weekend,

My friend, Larry Storch, (Corporal Agarn, of F Troop), just sent me this copy of a photo of us when we were rehearsing for a production of I Oughta Be in Pictures. It was in 1981 at The Hampton Playhouse in Hampton, New Hampshire. We had such a marvelous time doing that show. There are lots of stories about it in my book, On Stage & In Shadows.

I'm happy to say that the sale of my memoirs is going very well. And at the 2008 Festival, because there were so many new fans, and fans that haven't been to a Fest for 10 years, I almost ran out of copies. And for all of you that already had read the book, thank you for the wonderful comments about my book.

I'm a professional photographer these days, and have posted a few of my photographs on the site.

Craig Hamrick & Michael Karol

Craig Hamrick and Michael Karol are the editors of my book,
On Stage & In Shadows, and gave me invaluable guidance and encouragement throughout. (Craig, Im so sorry to say, passed away last year.) He was a very talented photographer, also designed the cover and I love it. Both Michael and Craig have written many fabulous books, which I highly recommend. COMING LATER THIS YEAR:
The New Barnabas & Company!

A new edition of Barnabas & Company by Craig Hamrick has been delayed because of the untimely death of Craig. However, he was putting the finishing touches on it, and I'm sure it will be available later this year. It'll be full of an enormous amount of new material, and they'll also be photos from the Dark Shadows 40th anniversary celebration weekend. Much of the new material is based on new interviews Craig conducted last year with many cast members, including Humbert Allen Astredo, Jerry Lacy, Betsy Durkin, Chris Pennock, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, Nancy Barrett and more! So even if you've read the first printing, you'll find lots of new info in this edition. And if you've never read Barnabus & Company, this is the edition to buy. Click Dark Shadows Online to read more about it.

Sleeps Well With Others

My friend and one of my editors, Michael Karol, has written yet another book. It's a prequel to the 2003 gay vampire hit Kiss Me, Kill Me.

Ray Abreu, the hero of Kiss Me, Kill Me, is back -- as a gay youngster, growing up in a repressed small town and feeling the pain...that is, until he gets sent by his parents to an all-male sleepaway camp in the Adirondack Mountains in upper New York State. There, Ray experiences a gradual flowering and realization of his homoerotic feelings, and grows from a shy, retiring boy into a person who can stand up for himself. But he's unaware of the deadly presence "standing up" for him behind the scenes. This unique prequel is spiked with sex, thrills, and chills -- but then, whose adolescence isn't?
